JEllen, Sally & Siria (Sally’s granddaughter) met at the train/bus station to hop on the vaparetto to St Marc’s Square to catch the excursion to the islands.

We crossed San Marcos basin along San Giorgio island, the gardens, St Helen and the Lido.

Our first stop Murano. This island has been famous for over 800 years for its glass art craft manufacturing known and treasured across the globe. Each incredible piece is unique and perfectly crafted.

We were treated to a glass blowing demonstration by one of the artists. They are trained for years and years to perfect their craft.

After the vase, a perfect horse

After the demonstration Siria (a gps whiz) directed our own mission through the tiny streets of Murano to find Cesear Toffolo Glass Masters shop so Jeff could make his final decision on the pieces to bring home (or for Sally to transport 😩) that stopped him cold on our walk through the streets of Venice.

We found it and while he decided we grabbed lunch. Murano is a series of islands linked by bridges in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy. It lies about 1.5 km (1 mi) north of Venice and measures about 1.5 km (1 mi) across with a population of just over 5,000. It is famous for its glass making. It was once an independent comune, but is now a frazione of the comune of Venice.

We made it back to our ship with time to spare. We did not want to be late, we watched the previous boat have to return to shore to pick up panicked and late passengers.

Next stop Burano, known for lace manufacturing and its fisherman’s brightly colored houses.

There are no numbers on the houses you know who lives where by the color of the house.

But first GELATO!!!!

Then a bit of shopping and walking the streets enjoying head spinning beauty of the houses on the canal and shops.

I’m trying to post favorites but they are all gorgeous and unique and and and so I will stop and move on to Torchello. There was not enough time on this magical island. We’ll just have to come back…

Torchello was the first center of civilization in the estuary. The Cathedral & Church of Santa Fasca remain as a testament to its former glory. Only 6 full time resident live on this island.

The famous chair to sit and ponder or pose and Siria did a fabulous job looking marvelous

Dr Seuss best describes my feelings

It was a day of amazement and beauty and enlightenment and joy. Back to Venice to freshen up and have our last dinner in Italy 🇮🇹
