No golf – Ferries

So the rain and wind continue but we’re very good at Plan B afterall

We hopped in the car after booking a round trip on the Tarbert Ferry in search of sunshine.

We see some blue skies of hope
Only 20 minutes to save 85 miles by going straight across to Killimer in County Clare
Cmon sunshine 🌞

Time to explore the WILD Atlantic Way

The water had 3 hearty ladies out for a morning swim burrrrr 🥶
Yes this is a two lane road to the most western point in County Clare

But the cliffs are showing up and our destination is near…

Loop Head Lighthouse

We stopped in the little hut to buy tickets for the tour just in time to be shielded from a downpour 🍀

The tour starts now

Dennis was our tour guide telling us the history of this beauty.

Loop Head is an iconic landmark since 1670 on Ireland’s rugged West Coast shoreline and the soft beauty of Co. Clare’s postcard pretty countryside. A trip to Loop Head Lighthouse is a visit of contrasts, centred around this beacon of hope that has perched majestically on the scenic headland of Loop Head peninsula for hundreds of years, looking down on the fury of the Atlantic Ocean 90 meters below.

The coolest part is you can book a stay in the lighthouse keepers home. We definitely need to do this on one of our trips.

The lighthouse became automated in 1991 and the last keeper worked there for 40 years.

We walked up 5 flights and reached the top for a view and were met with heavy rain

Didn’t help our view
Back up lighting
We did not come here for the weather

Back down for a walk around

A most picturesque lighthouse with every view. It protected ships for hundreds of years, and remains today.

It also guided planes during WW2 with an Eire 45 sign on the tip of the head that helped them navigate and identify the coastline of Ireland, a neutral country in WW2.

Not my photo but important to see the view to guard against invasion. There are 82 marks around the coastlines of Ireland.

Not my photo but you need to see this incredible head jetting into the Atlantic Ocean

View from inside the keepers home

Time to bid goodbye to this majestic beauty & back on the road to our home away from home.

The cliffs and the seas below are crashing against them

Our lighthouse guide said the most powerful Atlantic packs three tons of force in a square foot.

Back to the ferry in the pouring rain after another perfect day in Ireland

On the way, this might be my new favorite pub

SWANKEY PUB ~ Stylishly Luxurious

Tomorrow’s a new day and we have some sweet cousins coming to visit our home away from home. Rain rain go away please!!!
