Yesterday we relied on our GPS to get us around the Grund which is the lowest part of the city of Luxembourg. You know when you follow the blue line & dot and then they move on you. Start again, move again. It’s beyond frustrating and usually adds a few thousand extra unnecessary steps 😡. As in, we both had 17,000+ steps yesterday!!
We looked everywhere for Melusina the mermaid statute and thought that maybe she was diving in and out of the river and just messing with us. We were not loving her, we were tired and hot and hangry.
Today our mission was to go back to Grund and find the lil (B) mermaid. Also find the way down without the steepest of hills, steps and cobblestone streets.
We found the best way down and close to our flat. We also found the tunnel with the photography display. It was so peaceful & no people in our sights.

You can see it’s a long way down

FINALLY welcome to the Grund the lowest & coolest part of Luxembourg

We have a plan and next up is to find St John the Baptist church near the monastery & visit the black Madonna.

I did say a lil prayer to our lady that we find that lil 🧜♀️ or it will be a tough tourist day

The legend of Melusina:
One day, Count Siegfried, the founder of Luxembourg, was walking on the banks of the Alzette when he met a princess more beautiful than the day. This gorgeous creature was the nymph of the Alzette, named Melusina, and charmed the valley. Siegfried fell headlong in love with her and in no time had offered his heart and crown to the young woman, who accepted. Melusina, however, made one condition, which Siegfried had to promise to observe or lose her forever. On Saturdays, the count was to leave Melusina alone in her room and neither see her nor attempt to find out what she was doing. Siegfried agreed and the couple married. For years, they lived happily and had many children. One Saturday, however, Siegfried walked past Melusina’s room and, hearing a noise, looked through the keyhole. Imagine his horror when he saw her splashing about in a large pool, her body ending in a fish tail. Now that her true nature had been revealed, Melusina uttered a piercing cry and was swallowed up by the earth. Since then, the nymph of the Alzette has been sealed in a rock known as the Bock and only reappears once every seven years.

We decided to hop on a city bus. All buses and trams are FREE here. FREE to go all over the city. We had no idea where the #9 would take us

We were the last ones left at the last stop near the hospital. The driver pulled over and asked us where we wanted to go. We answered “the city center” and he said I’m taking a break here but you’ll get there when we start the route again.

While waiting Jeff noticed this sticker

We hopped off eventually and had a scrumptious lunch in a sweet cafe right next door to our last stop of the day.

Oh my…
Got back just in time for thunder, lightening and pouring rain. We have chocolate and The Open golf from Portrush live…

We’re off to Lyon France tomorrow. We’re heading South, but making a big swing around Paris. Not a good place for tourists right now. Can’t believe that in 10 days we’ll be in Portugal! Wow, the summer is flying by.
