Day-20 Tromsø

The gateway to the Arctic and still boasting the farthest north something. Norway has an elongated shape, one of the longest and most rugged coastlines in the world. Norway has 239,057 islands and 81,192 islets. We took a private tour with Enjoy the Arctic and Alan our excellent guide.

Ready to hit the road

We spent five hours touring the area surrounding Tromsø. Just outside of the city in Kvaløysletta we spied a herd of reindeer trekking down the path next to the road. We drove through the mountains, close to Fjords and beaches and glacier fed lakes. The pictures barely touch on the magical beauty, serenity and crispy air to fill our lungs.

We stopped for a”toalett” break and a snack. Who knew we were about to get a warm drink and our very own cake.

Time for some cake!

On the way home we were treated to more pristine lakes, rugged mountains and more Sámi reindeer.

We had a few hours to walk around the quaint shopping district of Tromsø and even found the most northern McDonalds in the world.

The day was full of beauty and the six of us enjoyed being off the ship and experiencing the beauty of Norway, we’re still above the Polar Circle (as they call it.)

We departed Tromsø on the early evening, but with the sunset not happening until late, we had some fabulous views as we went through the fjords.
