From the dream of St Aubert in which St Michael appeared 3 times in the year 708, and instructed him to build a church on the rocky islet, it has been known as the “Bastille of the Sea.”
If you want the full, very interesting story I encourage a visit someday. It’s the 2nd most visited site, only to the Eiffel Tower. It’s magnificent!

The island lies approximately one kilometre (one-half nautical mile) off France’s north-western coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon Rivernear Avranches and is 7 hectares (17 acres) in area. The tides surrounding the Abby are the fiercest in all of Europe.
We started early from Caen and had a lovely drive through the French countryside. When we first set eyes on the Abby the magnificent size is quite overwhelming.
We took the shuttle down the road and as we stepped off the bus we marveled at this place, nothing like it in the world.

We were lucky to be one of the first visitors so it was peaceful before the storm
