Amboise & Loire Valley

With its grand château and medieval old town peppered with half-timbered buildings and ancient wine cellars, Amboise is the quintessential Loire Valley town. This is where Leonardo da Vinci chose to spend his final years.

Our hosts hotel rooms but we have a lovely cottage with our very own hot tub at the back of this property

It’s a French Holiday (Bastile Day) today so we decided to take a walk around Aboise.

We were gifted a concert in the park

We were going to chill today but the Da Vinci museum was calling. He spent the last years of his amazing life here. He died 2 May 1519.

Château du Clos Lucé built in 1471 where DaVinci lived before he passed

In 1855 it became a well-known museum about Leonardo da Vinci’s life, work and memory, which was put together and directed by The Saint-Bris family, the current owners of the property.

Aside from being an amazing painter he was also quite the innovation/inventor.

The chateau’s rooms gave a glimpse into how he lived and worked. Also fabulous exhibits displaying his art, his inventions and his creations that are 500+ years ago.

His workshop

He was also a botanist and actually listened to the wings of bees to understand how they flew.

His workbooks were so detailed – and small!

The grounds have a beautiful park, canal and gardens.

A buff-tailed bumblebee

It’s amazing how many little things catch your eye when you’re just out strolling. I thought you might enjoy some black & whites too:)

Some are really big!
And some are really small!

Tomorrow, we get serious about Châtheu-ing!
