Copenhagen Day 2

It’s the Capital & most populous city in Denmark; one of the happiest places in the world. It holds a staggering number of 15 Michelin Star restaurants. It’s also one of the most bicycle friendly cities. There are 250 miles of bike lanes in the city alone. The Danish Kroner as currency throws Jeff off after he was just getting the Swedish conversion down.

Canals run all over town. Famous homeland of Hans Christian Anderson, writer of The Little Mermaid and Pippy Longstocking stories to name a few.

There’s also the famous little mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue) statue in the harbour, a world famous tourist spot since 1913. She looks so serene, but I guess being a mermaid isn’t easy. She’s had her head sawed off (never found it, so they cast another), her arm ripped off, and been blown up!

Poor girl had had a rough life
Kermit liked her though

We are loving this city, rated the greenest city in the world. They care about the environment, renewable energy, efficiency and buildings are green. 67% of their electricity is from renewables; wind & biomass and solar. The canals are so clean you can swim in them. It’s also HQ for Maersk, the largest shipping container company in the world.

It’s vibrant and friendly and don’t step into the bike lane during commute – or anytime for that matter. It’s 4-5 bikes per person in this city that is fit and on the move.

See Jeff could fit me & Kermit
This might be why they have multiple bikes; they’re everywhere & I wonder how you find your bike after a few brews after work

We took a hop on & off bus tour today and found more niches to explore the next few days…

Royal family yacht
I don’t know why

We visited the citadel and walked the grounds, and the surrounding park is lush.

Changing of the guard
Tribute to those lost in WW2

We’re so impressed with Copenhagen and we’re going to cover as much as we can in the next 3 days. Tivoli Gardens, Art Museums and some cool areas. The architecture is amazing.

Plus lots of places for a lil coffee break & FIKA

Ended the day with a stop at the Church of our Savior. You could walk the 500 stairs to the top but we still need to get to the top of our Airbnb stairs

Stay tuned, there’s still a lot more to see!
